Married : Catalina (Ruda) Ibrahim Barquet

Married on 27 Sept 1891 in Tripoli
Her Mother was Rosa Emilia Dib (related to Hanna Dib Lattouf ?) from Koubbeh, Tripoli
Born 1877 in Tripoli - Died in Zacatecas

From St. Michael's church records in Koubbe:

- On 27 Sept 1891, Salim son of Hanna Dib Lattouf married Reda daughter of Ibrahim Baraket. Best Man Assaad Youssef Hadchiti, Maid of Honor was Mariam, wife of Ibrahim Faddoul.

- On 08 Dec 1892 Mariam daughter of Salim Hanna Dib Lattouf was baptized. Godfather was Assaad Youssef Hadchiti, Godmother was Mariam, wife of Ibrahim Faddoul.

On 12 Dec 1899, Salomon was 27 years old, Catalina was 22. She had joined Salomon in Mexico 1 year and 3 months ago (i.e. Sept 1898).

Reda, or Ruda as pronounced in the Lebanese dialect of the time, had to change her name in Mexico, to Catalina, since Ruda sounded like "roueta" or wheel, thus the name change. She was the daughter of Abraham Barquet and Rosa Emilia Dip, which make Reda a second cousin to Salomon. No records are available yet on this Rosa Emilia Dip, or her branch of the Dip family ( she may have been from the Dib el-Helou family ? which may connect the Hanna Dib Lattouf branch with that of Hanna Dib el-Helou branch).

Salomon was known for his equestrian skills. It was told that he knocked a spirited horse dead with a slap on the horse's face. He also died because of a horse who was pulling carriage and a train passed by, making the horse go crazy. The carriage broke in two, and Salomon fell on the track and was killed by the passing train.

When the three Dip's went to Mexico, Salomon was already married and had three young children : Mariana, Amelia, and Jamileh (All Three Mexican Dips had an Amelia daughter, and one of the Dibs who stayed in Tripoli, had an Emelie daughter. It must have been the name of Hanna Dib Lattouf's mother ?).

Salomon, Jose and Julian traveled alone. Ruda Barquet, Salomon's wife, stayed in Tripoli with her three daughters. They stayed, as was customary, in the house of her parent-in-law. Salomon was a very handsome man, and as such, beautiful Mexican women started hovering around him. His brother Julian was a very religious man, and such, wrote to Ruda that she must come to Mexico and join her husband before she loses him. Ruda's father-in-law advised her against travelling since she had an infant who could not withstand the sea voyage. When Julian's letter arrived to Ruda, she told her father-in-law Hanna, that if he would not let her travel and join her husband, she would throw herself in the sea to die. Hanna capitulated, and Ruda, Marianna, and Amelia, joined Salomon Sept. 1898.

The infant Jamileh stayed in Tripoli, in the custody of Hanna Dib. Some short time afterward, Hanna Dib (and his wife) passed away, and Jamileh was to be taken of by a woman who was in the service of the elder Dibs. When Salomon and Ruda subsequently went to Lebanon to get Jamileh from the woman who was supposed to be taking care of her, the woman claimed that Jamileh died sometime ago. Salomon and Ruda believed that Jamileh was still alive and that the woman did not want to give her back. This was a tragic loss of a Dib.
