Born in 1814 - Died in Tripoli, Lebanon on 9 Sept 1910
It is told that Hanna, and at least some of his children came from, or were born in, Istanbul, Turkey. Not much is known about Hanna's brothers, sisters, or ancestors, but he may have been a descendent of the old Dib family of Dlebta, Keserwan (Lebanon).
There are some Dib (Dip) relatives in Guadalajara, Mexico. If they are in fact relatives (needs to be established), then they must be the descendents of Hanna's brother or a cousin.
In the 1854 census of the Maronite families in Tripoli, there were two "Hanna Dib"s listed. I am not sure if this was a double counting, or there were two related people from the same family branch. One Hanna Dib had a wife and two male children, the other had a wife and one male child. Since Elias Hanna Dib was born in 1856, I am assuming the first Hanna Dib was our great grandfather, and his two children, then, were Khalil and Youssef.
Hanna Dib was known as Hanna Dib Lattouf on records. It is still unknown why the "Lattouf" was part of his name, but it does appear on his vital records in Tripoli in the first and only census taken in Lebanon in 1932, as well as in the baptismal / marriage records of the church of Saint Michael in Koubbeh, Tripoli. The "Lattouf" name was dropped from the family name after around 1920, but this may just had to do with how a certain priest recorded names in baptismal / marriage records.
Hanna had his first child at age 35, and last child (Faris) at age of 62, His wife Mariam Faddoul was 49 years old then. That shows good genes throughout our family!.
Hanna Dib was born around the time the French Emperor Napoleon, lost his battles and throne. Hanna lived during the reign of the great Emir Bachir Chehab, ruler of Mount Lebanon at the time (although Tripoli was never under the reign of the Chehab Emirs). He lived in turbulent time in the area, time of diseases, conquests, wars, and civil wars between Druze and Maronites. He endured, sometimes, very hard times and persecutions of Maronites by Moslem rulers. However after Hanna's death in 1910, the whole world went crazy and had two devestating World Wars.
