I had the most amazing time at SLIG 2020.  I learned so much from those I consider my genealogy idols.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I first started researching my dad\u2019s side of the family, I searched and searched for books (back in the day before the internet) and one author always popped up in my search results.\u00a0 I first bought Finding Your Hispanic Roots, written by George Ryskamp; then a few years later, he published another book called, Finding Your Mexican Ancestors, written by both George and his wife, Peggy, which I also purchased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two books have been the foundation of my Mexican genealogical research and I would recommend them to anyone who is researching their Hispanic family tree.\u00a0 There is one book, Tracing Your Hispanic Heritage that is out of print, but I am sure you can find it in your local library, like I did, or at a used book store. George and Peggy Ryskamp, my genealogy idols, were the cornerstone of the faculty that taught the Advance Hispanic Research course at SLIG 2020, along with Debbie Gurtler, Colleene Greene, Brandon Baird, Evan Christensen, Henrietta Christmas, Arturo Cuellar, Joan Ferrer, Leandro Soria, and Karen Stanbary. The coordinators of this course were George Ryskamp and Debbie Gurtler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I learned of new resources of where we can find records and new sites to learn the social history of Mexico and its states. I also found out new methodologies to use in my research strategy. I will be making several posts over the next several weeks to include the new information that I have obtained and discuss what I have learned. If you get a chance to attend a future SLIG, I highly recommend that you do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
