Ruben –
Family #1489
Ruben רְאוּבֵן Family of Jewish Decent: History:
Many Jews were
scattered all over the world throughout history, and, some of
them also arrived
in Ceylon (now modern day Sri Lanka).
Due to the inquisition and due to persecution,
many Jews also
moved to Ceylon and mixed with locals. They were concealing
their Jewish
identity through different methods to protect themselves from
harm.
To this day, there are still many Jews who have
married into
different ethnic groups in the country.
One such Jewish family recorded from heritage is
the Ruben
רְאוּבֵן family. They are of Jewish heritage and descend from
the Hebrew
personal name Reuven, Biblical Reuben interpreted in Genesis
29:32 as reu
‘behold’ + ben ‘son’.
