S.D. Danny: Death of pioneer businessman

Pioneer businessman S.D.Danny, popularly known as Danny Mudalali, passed away yesterday.

He was born in 1920 in Talalla, Matara. He came to Colombo at the age of 15 and began his business career along with his brother. He was instrumental in strengthening the local business community at the end of World War II when most of the foreign businessmen left the country.

His first business venture was known as Danny Brothers. He later began a second company known as Danny and Sons. He climbed to the top in Colombo business circles and ventured into international operations. He established Goodwood Plaza, one of the Sri Lanka's first tourist class hotels. He was a devout Buddhist.

He was the husband of Leela Abeynaike and father of seven children. He was the brother of S.D. Gunadasa (Dasa Mudalali) who is the owner of the Dasa Group of Companies

His funeral will be held at the General Cemetery, Kanatte at 5 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2002. His remains are at 42, Barnes Place, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka
