families. Re. the name De Alwis: some families are Sinhalese families that
were given this name during baptism, other De Alwis
are Burgers……ie. Portuguese and
Dutch Soldiers etc. that married Sinhalese. Robert Knox book says that about 1,000
European prisoners married Sinhalese. Temporal and Spiritual Conquest and other
books mention soldiers marrying Sinhalese in order to build a Colony…..to have
better success in taking control of
