NUGAWELA - Family #3158
Imbulmalgama Chandrasekara Paniwidakarana Niame, the keeper of the Betel Box during the reign of King WickremaBahu III 1371-1378 AD, (founder of Senkadagala Nuwara in Kandy). He was awarded a Sanhasa of the village of Imbulmalgama for saving the kings life by intervening in an attempted assassination by a negro named "Patti Kiriya, by which he sustained personal injuries. His son was granted the village of Dodanwela, in 1635, by King Rajasinghe II of Nilamba for his services to the King and State, during the fourth generation of this family The son was also conferred the title of Basnayaka Nilame of Dodanwela Dewala. Of the two sons born to the Dodanwela Basnayaka Nilame, the older received great favors from King Veera Parakrama Bahu (1708 AD) and lived at Nugawela at Sarasiyapattuwa and adopted the name of Nugawela. The members of this family use the Patabendi name of Chandrasekara Wasala Mudiyanse to this day which is sufficient proof of their descendancy from Imbulmalgama Chnadrasekara Paniwadakarana Nilame.
