[This family line were keepers of the Buddhist temples in the Kandyan Kingdom. (The name probably has other honorifics, vasagama etc.) [Is the title Basnayake Nilame?] Ancestors of this branch of the family went to Portuguese for education (and for other reasons?). They became Christian. In the 1800’s fought against British, and as a result lost much land. Became notaries etc. Family built a Christian (catholic?) church. Mid to late 1800’s spelling was Samarasinha. More information is on Genebase.com]. This family hails from Walawwe families. Research is under way to find exact details and previous ancestors.
