WEERASOORIYA Family of Dodanduwa #3095
Å Idapp Perumal Kurukula (see Suriya Clans), a Vaduga from Tanjore, arrived in the Kotte kingdom in the15th century and settles in Negombo. One of his descendants is Don Simon de Silva.
Ñ Don Simon de Silva moves to Galle and oversees the Customs administration of the Galle port.
v Don Margiris de Silva Weerasooriya (approx 1780 -1814), Patabendi Arachchi (see http://www.karava.org/karave_kings ), Customs Officer of Galle and Receiver of wrecks for Dodanduwa. He had 9 sons and 6 daughters and owned a ship building yard at Dodanduwa to construct ‘Yaathra’ (large sea going vessels; used in the past in wars with Indian and Malay kingdoms and for trade).
