Carol,
to
those who knew him, left Ceylon with his family in ’72 and
migrated to Canada, settling down in Toronto.
He
joined
Reggie Candappa when Grant Advertising, now part of a
worldwide network of advertising agencies, was first formed
and worked there until he left Ceylon.
Dad
loved
sports including hockey, rugger and cricket but he was
especially fond of cycle racing and was undefeated in his
cycling career. He organized and officiated at many Tour De
Ceylon Cycle races and formed the Winged Wheel Cycling Club
whose riders went on to win many an event.
He
was
a member of the Havelocks and the Old Thomians Swimming Club
where he enjoyed playing Santa at many Kids Christmas
Parties. He was also a member of the BRC and played Hockey
for the BRC. He was active in the Thomian OBA in Ceylon and
later in Canada as well.
Upon
immigrating
to Canada, Dad took another direction in his professional
life and worked until he retired at North York Branson
Hospital.
He,
and
his dearly departed wife Margie, loved travelling and went
on many cruises and tours around the globe and visited
family and friends in the UK, Ceylon, Singapore, and
Australia many times.
They
loved
dancing and parties and a “few “drinks with family and
friends. Those who knew him would remember that he loved to
have a singalong and loved telling jokes at these parties
and functions. Though know for being softspoken, he was
always the life of a party.
He
loved
his music: Oldies, Rock and Roll, Country, Reggae, Jazz and
had an extensive collection of records and tapes and CD’s.
He never failed to listen to his music in the “Music Room”
or the basement for a few hours every day on his elaborate
Stereo system much to the chagrin of Mom who insisted that
he must be deaf.
His
faith
was an important part of his life and Church was another
focal point for Dad. He was active as a Sidesperson and
never failed to miss a Sunday service, no matter how late
Mom and he had partied on the Saturday night.
He
was
a mentor and hero to his 3 sons, 5 grandchildren and 3
greatgrandchildren. He was beloved as well by numerous
nieces and nephews. He always found the time to attend
events and celebrations in their lives and took pride in
seeing them have fun and succeed at whatever they were
doing.
He
suffered
a stroke 12 years ago and then endured 2 more in the
intervening years and had to curtail many of the things Mom
and he loved, including parties and travel. Through all of
this, including the loss of vision in one eye due to a
stroke and Dementia that progressively worsened, he never
lost his infectious smile and broke into a broader smile
whenever he saw someone he knew, especially if it were one
of his children, grandkids or greatgrandchildren. He never
complained and insisted that he was okay no matter the
situation. Mom nursed him through his health issues till she
passed away 2 and ½ years ago.
Dad
lived
a full and vibrant life for almost 91 years. While he
enjoyed many accomplishments in his athletic and business
career, his greatest accomplishment will be the legacy he
left and that will live on through his kids, grandkids and
greatgrandchildren.
That’s
how
we remember our Dad Tremayne, Sherwin & Dirk
