Ellis Island, New York, was the first stop of all emigrants from the old world, to the new world.
After 40 days of quarantine and checking out their health conditions, these emigrants were allowed to settle in the United States, or returned to their old countries, if found in poor health.Many proceeded on to other places such as Mexico.
The island is next to the Statue of Liberty island, and has a very nice museum, and a Wall of Honor, where emigrants names are inscribed. Below are the DIB names found on this Wall of Honor.
