The Ayub Family of Blaouza - Lebanon

The Ayub Family

of Blaouza - Lebanon

Background

The Ayub family from Blaouza, caza of Becharre, Lebanon, migrated at the turn of the twentieth century. Some went and settled as far as New Hampshire, USA, and changed their family name to Khoury or Corey. This was probably due to the fact that they had a priest in their branch of the family.

Other Ayubs did not migrate as far, just a few tens of miles down to Ardeh, caza of Zgarta, where they worked the land, and were given land properties in return.

One Ayub immigrant, returned from the USA to Ardeh, and as an old lady with lots of stories, she would tell her grandchildren in Ardeh, about how, in America, they were constructing a building that would reach to the sky ( The Empire State Building in New York City, which was completed in 1943 . The adults hearing her talking "such non-sense" would only feel pity for her, and assume tat she was going senile. Of course how could anyone build such a tall building ? The largest building in nearby Tripoli, was no more than 4 stories tall !

in the early to mid nineteen sixties, many of the third generation Ayubs were engaged in the construction business, which did not prosper in a little town such as Ardeh and its nearby villages, so they started migrating from Ardeh to Australia, where their majority is today. Only one Ayub remain in Ardeh now.
